For many, yoga is a path to relaxation, flexibility, and mindfulness. For Chris, it became a transformative practice that not only alleviated his chronic pain but also reignited his passion for running. Discovering Yoga in Uncertain Times

Chris’s naked yoga journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic. With lockdown restrictions limiting his ability to visit the gym, he sought alternative ways to stay active. Through a naturist organization, he was introduced to free online naked yoga classes. What started as a casual practice quickly became a vital part of his routine.

“I was lucky enough to be offered free naked online yoga classes through the naturist organization I’m a member of, and started doing yoga three times a week guided by a live online instructor. I was hooked!” Chris recalls.

Finding True Naked Yoga

As lockdown restrictions lifted, Chris searched for new yoga classes and came across True Naked Yoga. The variety of classes and the expertise of the instructors drew him in.

“The yoga classes looked varied with excellent guidance from the instructors. It was great to see others enjoying naked yoga, and really good to be able to join a virtual instructor-led class in addition to the other live online classes I was attending.”

Overcoming Pain and Rediscovering Running

Approaching his 50s, Chris feared that his days of long-distance running were behind him. Knee, hip, and back pain made even shorter runs difficult, and he resigned himself to the idea that he might never run another marathon.

However, as he deepened his yoga practice, something incredible happened.

“I found that the pain I had in my hips, knees, and back started to disappear. I could run without discomfort, and I could run longer and further. To my amazement, I was in less pain than when I was 20 years younger!”

Through consistent practice, Chris regained his strength and endurance, allowing him to return to the sport he loved.

While Chris had always been comfortable in his own skin, practicing yoga nude gave him an entirely new appreciation for his body.

“I have attended a few in-person naked yoga classes and was really pleased to receive compliments about my strength, technique, and muscle tone. It makes me proud of my body and unashamed to be naked.”

Beyond physical benefits, he also found a deeper connection to his practice.

“The nudity means there are no restrictions in poses, making it easier to hold some of the shapes. It brings a purity to the practice that is missing when constricted by clothing. Having a nude instructor brings a sense of acceptance and belonging—showing off our bodies is normal and nothing to be ashamed of.”

Naked yoga helped rekindle Chris’s passion for running.

Navigating Reservations About Nudity

Despite his confidence, Chris is mindful of how others perceive his practice.

“My reservations and insecurities are mainly around what others would think if they knew I practiced yoga nude. I am still very private about it, as I worry about how others perceive nudity. I only really discuss it with other naturists.”

He also acknowledges that nudity can sometimes be misunderstood.

“One of my other reservations is the connection between nudity and sensuality. I think accepting that it’s natural to find someone attractive—whether clothed or nude—and not being ashamed of that is an important part of the naturist journey.”

Integrating Yoga into a Busy Life

With an intense running schedule, Chris sometimes struggles to fit yoga into his routine. However, True Naked Yoga’s short programs help him stay consistent.

“I really like that True Naked Yoga has short programs that I can easily slot into a busy day. This makes it easier to do at least a little yoga regularly.”

As a runner, Chris naturally gravitates toward yoga practices that enhance his flexibility and recovery.

“If I have to choose one, I’d go for Ashe’s flexible hamstrings yoga. As a runner, I always have tight hamstrings, and Ashe’s practice is a great way to relieve the tension. I really admire Ashe’s flexibility and peaceful, calm presence.”

Advice for Those New to Naked Yoga

For those curious about naked yoga but unsure where to start, Chris offers some thoughtful advice:

“Start with some of the great beginner sessions, perhaps a slow and gentle Hatha with Hannah. If you’re a runner like me, Indi’s legs and hips practices are great. If you’re not comfortable being fully nude, try shedding just a few clothes first. Maybe keep a long, baggy t-shirt on and work up to full confidence.”

He also encourages taking the practice outdoors when possible.

“If you have the chance to do naked yoga outdoors, I highly recommend it. It’s the ultimate way to connect with nature and experience the purest yoga experience.”
