Are you a beginner interested in trying yoga but feel too intimidated to sign up for a studio class? Or, are you an experienced yogi who can no longer afford expensive group classes? Home yoga, or self-practice, may be the perfect solution for you. While there are many perks to taking in-studio classes (such as hands-on corrections and motivating ambiance), there are also many benefits to going it alone – especially when it comes to naked yoga.

At home, you can go at your own pace and feel truly free from all distractions and judgement.

When you practice naked yoga at home, you can truly focus on yourself and the practice, without worrying about uncomfortable restrictive clothing, the pressure of keeping up with others in class, or even the expensive price tag. At home, you can go at your own pace and feel truly free from all distractions and judgement. Plus, doing yoga alone will help you to learn to trust yourself and gain confidence as you guide yourself through the practice.

Here are some helpful tips for ensuring you get the most out of your home yoga practice:

1. Schedule a time.

Just as you would plan your day to make it to a studio class at a specific time, adding your at-home yoga practice to your calendar will help you commit to it, which is especially helpful if you are just starting out and haven’t yet developed a regular exercise routine.

2. Set the mood.

Roll out your yoga mat in a particular area of your home that will allow you to be free from distractions (even if just for 20 minutes!), light candles or incense, and play some relaxing music. Setting the tone for your practice will help designate this as a special time apart from the rest of your day.

3. Put your phone on silent (and in another room).

Allow yourself just a few focused minutes to concentrate only on your yoga practice by removing distracting devices from the room, just as you would leave your phone in your locker or car before going to a studio class. At home it can be tempting to check notifications as you get them, but you’ll get the full benefits of the practice if you resist.

4. Don’t eat right before.

While you don’t necessarily want to practice yoga with absolutely nothing in your stomach, it’s best that you don’t eat immediately before exercising to avoid cramping and indigestion. So if you’re doing yoga on your lunch break at home, do it before eating rather than the reverse.

5. Follow along to a motivating class.

By purchasing a full, guided routine, your yoga practice will not only feel more official but you’ll be much more likely to follow through and complete the class, and you’ll get the most out of your efforts.
