From Model to Mentor: How Naked Yoga Helped Jannica Rediscover Confidence and Purpose
Jannica’s Story
Jannica Klingborg once lived a life that seemed like the epitome of glamour. As a high-profile fashion model, she graced campaigns for global brands like Calvin Klein, Armani, and Burberry. Jet-setting from one photoshoot to another, she embodied the image of success. Yet, behind the flawless poses and polished facade was a woman riddled with insecurities and yearning for something more meaningful.
Today, Jannica has traded the runway for the yoga studio, where she’s a lead instructor for True Naked Yoga. Her journey is one of transformation—from a life defined by external validation to one rooted in self-acceptance and healing.
The Glamour That Wasn’t: A Model’s Reality
Jannica’s modeling career began with the promise of excitement, travel, and prestige. Born in Sweden to a Thai mother and Swedish father, she moved to London in 2004 to pursue her dreams. But the reality of the industry quickly began to wear on her.
“Expectations of endless youth and perfection are always present,” she explains. “There was a constant requirement to lose more weight to fit into collections, even though I was already at a perfectly healthy weight.”
Over time, Jannica’s confidence eroded.
“If you don’t start out with hang-ups about your appearance, by the time your modeling career is over, you’re most likely riddled with them,” she says. “Your entire sense of value is defined by your looks.”
Her career’s demands extended beyond her body. The fast-paced lifestyle led to unhealthy habits: frequent drinking, poor diet, and a growing disconnect from her mental and physical well-being.
“I realized I was very stressed and not satisfied with work or how I felt. I needed a change.”
The Discovery of Yoga: A Path to Healing
In 2011, Jannica attended her first yoga class. Initially, her motivation was superficial—another way to maintain her physical appearance. But the practice had a profound effect she hadn’t anticipated.
“The practice began to unravel not only the knots in my body but also in my mind,” she recalls. “It was dynamic and powerful—I had never felt so good before.”
Yoga became an obsession. What started as a physical workout evolved into a spiritual journey, helping her heal from years of stress, insecurity, and self-doubt.
“It was an escape from everything I wanted out from,” Jannica explains.
Her commitment to yoga grew, leading her to study the practice deeply. She trained in Bali and Thailand, eventually becoming a full-time yoga teacher and Reiki healer.
Discovering True Naked Yoga: Freedom Beyond the Mat
In 2020, Jannica discovered True Naked Yoga through a friend. The streaming platform, launched in 2018, offered a unique approach: practicing yoga without clothing to foster a deeper connection with oneself.
While the concept of naked yoga may raise eyebrows, Jannica sees it as a natural and transformative practice.
“Yoga is yoga, no matter if you’re wearing clothes or not,” she says. “Nudity is not inherently sexual—it’s our natural state, where we can feel liberated and at home.”
For Jannica, naked yoga became a way to shed not just clothing, but the layers of judgment and self-criticism she had carried for years.
“Being able to practice completely free from restrictions like clothes is something I think everyone needs to try at least once.”
From Student to Teacher: Inspiring Others Through Yoga
Joining True Naked Yoga as an instructor was a turning point in Jannica’s journey. Her role involves designing TNY’s classes and curating their video library that empower others to heal and grow through the practice.
“I’m only there as a guide and teacher in the hope that students will discover something beautiful about themselves, as I did,” she says.
Teaching naked yoga allows Jannica to share the lessons she’s learned about self-acceptance and the importance of honoring one’s body.
“Yoga saved me,” she says. “Little by little, I stopped going out because I wanted to wake up early for it. With that came more rest, better mental well-being, changes in my diet, and more energy.”
Overcoming Skepticism: Changing Perceptions About Naked Yoga
Jannica acknowledges that naked yoga isn’t for everyone—but she encourages people to approach it with an open mind.
“Taboos about nudity are deeply ingrained, but they’re often unnecessary,” she explains. “When we strip away the layers of clothing, we strip away judgment and shame. It’s liberating and empowering.”
Her decision to embrace naked yoga wasn’t without challenges. The transition from a lucrative modeling career to teaching yoga required sacrifices, both financially and emotionally. But Jannica believes the rewards far outweigh the costs.
“I miss the freedom of travel, but I don’t miss being told what to do—or being judged for my looks and size,” she says. “It was all worth it for my mental health and for the chance to help others.”
Living Authentically: A Life Transformed
Jannica’s journey has led her to a place of authenticity and purpose. Naked yoga not only restored her confidence but also gave her the tools to live a healthier, more mindful life.
“It’s helped bring me back to the present and serves as a constant reminder to slow down and breathe,” she says.
For those hesitant to try yoga—or to explore the idea of practicing it nude—Jannica offers encouragement.
“Yoga is about connection: with your body, your breath, and the present moment. Practicing naked is just one way to deepen that connection. It’s an opportunity to see yourself without judgment and to embrace who you truly are.”
