A morning yoga routine is the perfect way to kickstart a successful day.

1. Drink a full glass of water first thing after you wake up

Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning has many health benefits, such as jumpstarting your digestive system and boosting energy. It’s also a crucial first step to your morning yoga routine so that you’ll be nice and hydrated before your practice.

2. Do your morning hygiene routine

We recommend going to the restroom, brushing your teeth, and washing your face before practicing yoga in the morning. It will not only wake you up but you’ll also feel fresher and more mentally prepared for a yoga flow.

3. Skip breakfast until after your workout

Experts recommend practicing yoga on an empty stomach or at least 2 hours after a meal so that your body can use its energy on your workout, rather than digestion. This will help to avoid uncomfortable bloating and cramping that may hinder your practice. If you feel lightheaded or feel you must eat before exercising, stick to light, easily digestible snacks such as a banana - the potassium will also help you to avoid cramping.

4. Get down to your birthday suit

An obvious step in practicing naked yoga is, well, getting naked! If you’re not someone who sleeps naked to begin with, make a ritual out of this step. As you get down to your birthday suit, remember to thank your body for all it does for you and send yourself some love and positivity. This will help you develop stronger feelings of body positivity and self-esteem.

5. Set an intention for your practice

Many yogis like to set an intention before starting their morning yoga practice, which in turn is a great way to set an intention for the day. An intention can be a feeling or virtue you would like to cultivate during your practice, your, day, or even your life. Focusing on this feeling throughout your practice is a wonderful meditation and manifestation technique. An example of an intention would be a wish such as “to feel more peaceful”, a mantra such as “I am self aware”, or even just a word, like “gratitude”.
